I can’t believe I haven’t posted any flowers for so long.  It’s just oddly not the best season for flowers around here but I found one in St. Pete that was begging to have its portrait taken.  😉

I hope.  🙂  Have a great week everyone!

It’s already week 8? Wow – time is flying by!   I have been out shooting around Florida a lot to try to accomplish the tasks each week.  While always challenging, it seemed to be getting easier until this two-week span.  This is good for me because I learn better when I am pushed to work harder.  However, I feel like my photos for this week’s assignment were much more forced than the ones for the previous assignment.

Looking through other photographers work was again incredibly illuminating when looking for specific composition elements.  I have greater appreciation for several (names you know) photographers’ work after learning what Robin has shown us.

For me, like anything else, I have to practice to get better and I will do just that with these composition challenges as we move forward.   Don’t take this as I’m not enjoying this assignment – quite the opposite!  Bring on the challenges!

photo:  This is the Sunshine Skyway Bridge over Tampa Bay as seen from Fort De Soto Park.  It’s not so sunny there today.  Seems Isaac is heading a bit more west but we are still getting winds and rain.

Wish it would be a bit longer.  So much rain!  And now maybe another tropical storm?  I miss the sun.

Each week it is more amazing to me to learn how little I knew about why I would be drawn to a particular photo or not.  I’m sure if you had asked me (7 weeks ago) about why I liked one photo over another, I would have thought hard about it and given my best honest answer.  On the most basic level, I probably would have been at least partially wrong though.

The brain is an amazing wonder and while every human is unique, we also share many things including ways that we are naturally attracted to something.  Be it lines or shadows or patterns or whatever influences our thinking, I am finding these commonalities that we humans have fascinating.

At the end of this incredible learning journey I believe that I will be able to see things differently (from a deeper perspective) and use that skill to create images that are more appealing to a wider audience. Obviously, all art is subjective. At least now I will have the choice to do that.  Thank you Robin!!

There was a bit of a break from the rain so I went up to do some shots at Mt. Dora.  144 feet above sea level IS a mountain in Florida.  😉

the next VP?  2.0

the next VP?  2.0

This is not a political statement.  I just find it fun to hang out with the national press corps and get shots of the candidates that come to town.  Today it was Paul Ryan and his mom (can you believe she is 78?).

Have a great weekend everyone!

Gasparilla Island

Gasparilla Island

I’m on a lighthouse kick lately.  This is the other lighthouse on the island.  Boca Grande is really just down the street (or beach).  This style is what I think of as a traditional lighthouse rather than the ones that look like a (nice) boxy house.  No matter what they look like, all lighthouses are interesting to me and I’m ready to seek out some more.  🙂

Scavenger part 3

Scavenger part 3

Here are the rest of my photos from the Chrysta Rae’s Photography Scavenger Hunt July round.  It’s been so much fun and a great learning experience through three hunts.

I hope the person who takes my spot this next round gets as much out of it as I did!  (If you haven’t done one of these, and you don’t know Chrysta Rae at all, it is more than worth it to sign up just to enjoy her incredible wit and enthusiasm!)   🙂
