PLUS post! for week 4 for Robin Griggs Wood’s G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers

Fun week, she says.  Robin tells no lies.  Playing with light is always fun but it was a bit challenging with my schedule this week.  That might have made the lesson more useful to me though since I had to think more out of the box than I would have at home.

This photo is of a restaurant in Denver called Linger.  The back story is that the building used to be Olinger mortuaries.  Yes, really.   It’s not creepy at all actually and this sign was one of my light experiments for this week.  I have learned a ton this week and can’t wait to have time to share more!

You bring lots of awesomeness and joy to G+ so I hope the favor is returned a bit today!  Have a wonderful birthday!

July scavenger hunt = done!  There is no greater relief – haha!!  I can’t wait to see what people have created this time around.

I’ll be in and out over the next three weeks again (a bit in Colorado and a bit around south Florida) so my posts will be less frequent (at least publicly).  I will not miss the Olympics though and I’m glad to have some intermittent days at home to make sure I see all the good stuff.  Go USA!!

did you notice me??

did you notice me??

Off to shoot some more things with beaks today as well as my last scavenger photo! fingers crossed!  Yay!  (I also have to mow and trim the lawn, but that’s less exciting.)  Have a great day everyone!

PLUS post!  Week 3 for G+ Mentorship Program for Photographers with Robin Griggs Wood

With no formal art training under my belt, it’s been really interesting to learn how to break down an image and get to the heart of why it works or it doesn’t.

Before this program, I would just feel whether something worked or not and not necessarily be able to fix it if it didn’t feel right.  Now, I’m learning what enhancers are necessary to really create an image that works.

Side note: Not necessarily talking about the photo here – it just happens to be from this weeks shots. (Rain, rain and more rain!)  I had to finish up the scavenger hunt this week so I was not able to to shoot as much for this.  Not that I don’t like the photo.  haha!

I usually hate labels, but in this context, they’ve been crucial in identifying why some images really grab you and others don’t.  Not only that, but knowing what enhancers you are missing makes you look for them more and try to incorporate them into your images.  I’ve been especially fascinated by finding out which of the big dog photogs on G+ use these enhancers best!  😉

It’s been a crazy week but my favorite one in this program yet – I’m more happy to be in this program each week so far!  Thanks Robin!!  😀

I’ll be out shooting all day today to complete some projects.  I want to get away from the news a bit too.  Enjoy your weekend!  🙂

Thoughts and prayers with everyone in Colorado today after another senseless tragedy.  Everyone I know personally is safe and I’m thankful for that.  Things like this affect an entire community as I know well after Columbine.  All my love goes out to my friends in Colorado.

A Florida “mountain” view…   Seriously, this is about as much elevation as I’ve seen anywhere here.  And then there was more rain.  🙂
